1997-0000 Short Prose ‘A Junior Excursion Kangra Fort and Kunal Patri’ by Vasudha Choudhary, Class 4 from 1997-98 Sahaj Amrit, Pages 24 and 25

On Sunday, we went to a fort named as “KANGRA FORT” .We enjoyed alot [a lot]. We had lots of fun and very good food. We bad a few teachers with us. Still it was fun. We climbed quite high. lt was nice. There was a temple of Lord Buddha. At one place there was a broken temple. We had our lunch there. We were given bread, eggs, potatoes and tomato sandwiches. We had alot [ alot] of noodles and vegetables there.

We sang lots of bhajans throughout in the bus. That day we could not have our morning meditation. We stopped on the way to buy wood. We were told by our teachers about the earthquake which broke the temple.

Near the fort we saw a “Hamam” where the queen used to have her bath. Then we went to Kunal Patri. There was a “Swayambhu” (Self developed temple). It is said that earlier there was milk flowing out of it. People started selling that milk and the milk changed into water. Story about this temple is that Sati, wife of LORD SHIVA[,] was a pious and devoted wife. The father was a king named Daksh Prajapati. One day he had a big Yagna (Hawan). He invited everyone but not LORD SHIVA. When Safi came to know about it, she went to her father and told him that if he will not call SHIVA, she will jump into the fire. Her father didn’t agree to call SHIVA. She jumped into the Hawan [Havan] Kund and her burnt body flew in the air. The parts of her body fell in different places. Fifty-two different parts were cut of her body.

When Shiva went everywhere in search of her, he found her Sahastrara in Kund Patri. After listening the story from [a] class teacher[,] we bowed before the temple and came back to the school. We were tired completely, but our minds were still full of fun and joy.
